Some of my favorite places in Japan are shown in the map below. Kyushu is where I lived for many years when I was a postgraduate research student, Zao is a great place for skiing in the winter time while Nikko is a super place in the mountains where friends and I like to escape to on free weekends to get away from Tokyo.
